Manufacturer Snapshot

Egress Solutions stocks every common-size BILCO basement door in its Mullica Hill warehouse: BR-1, BR-2, and BR-3 sloped-wall doors, the Ultra C polyethylene door, and the framing components (extensions, foundation plates, stair stringers) most installations need.

A century-old name in basement access, The BILCO Company has been the standard reference for residential bulkhead doors since 1926. Headquartered in Connecticut, BILCO built its reputation on durable steel construction, weather-tight performance, and a design language consistent enough that contractors specify the brand by name and homeowners recognize the silhouette on sight. Their basement doors meet current IRC requirements for emergency egress in finished basement living areas — making them as relevant for code-compliance projects today as they were when the company invented the category.

Egress Solutions is a BILCO distributor serving the Delaware River Valley and the surrounding Mid-Atlantic. The BILCO products our market actually buys — every common BR sloped-wall size, the Ultra C, and the framing components that accompany them — sit on our shelves in Mullica Hill, ready to be loaded. When a project requires something less common, we handle the custom order from BILCO and manage the freight logistics on the back end. Either way, our job is the same: connect you to the right BILCO product and get it where it needs to go.

Classic Series Sloped-Wall Basement Doors (Type BR)

BILCO's Type BR door is the workhorse of basement access — engineered for installation on sloped sidewalls of brick, stone, block, or poured concrete. We stock every common size:

  • BR-1 — for shorter foundation walls
  • BR-2 — the most commonly specified size in our region
  • BR-3 — for taller foundation walls

bilco ultra series

Ultra Series Basement Doors

BILCO's polyethylene Ultra Series will never rust, rot, or need painting — a strong choice for property managers and homeowners who don't want to repaint a metal door every few years. We stock the Ultra C (the largest size in the Ultra line) for opening widths the standard BR series can't cover.

Components & Accessories

  • Extensions — raise the door height when foundation walls extend above grade
  • Foundation plates — for installations that mount directly to a concrete foundation rather than a sidewall areaway
  • Stair stringers — pre-fabricated for the basement stairway leading down from the bulkhead opening
Why this matters: If your job needs a BR-1, BR-2, BR-3, or Ultra C — plus the framing components — there is no factory lead time. Pull from our shelf, get to work.

When to Place a Custom BILCO Order

bilco permentry precast basement entrance

Quick Answer: Custom orders make sense when a job needs a non-stocked BR size (BR-O, BR-4, BR-5), a Classic Series flat-wall door, a smaller Ultra Series size, a factory powder-coat color match, or a PermEntry precast basement entrance. Custom items ship from BILCO's factory; we handle the order on your behalf.

BILCO manufactures a wider catalog than any distributor can reasonably stock. We handle custom orders for any BILCO product that isn't part of our standard inventory, including:

  • Less common BR sizes (BR-O for very short walls; BR-4 or BR-5 for unusually tall ones)
  • Classic Series flat-wall doors for installations where the existing areaway has vertical (not sloped) sidewalls
  • Smaller Ultra Series sizes (Ultra A and Ultra B) for narrower openings
  • Factory powder-coat finishes in BILCO's color palette to match a home's exterior
  • Precast basement entrances (BILCO PermEntry) for new construction where the entire concrete areaway and door ship as a system
  • Accessories beyond what we stock — keyed lock kits, weather seals, replacement hardware, and other parts

Custom orders fit projects with time to wait on factory production, foundations that need a non-standard size, or homeowners with a specific color or finish in mind. Call us before sizing the order — in many cases, we can save you money or time by pointing you to a stock size that will work, or by combining a custom door order with extensions and stringers from our shelf.

Installation: For Homeowners & Property Managers

Quick Answer: Egress Solutions does not install basement doors directly. We refer all BILCO installations to Swain Contracting, our partner installer covering New Jersey and Southeastern Pennsylvania. Outside that area, we can help identify a qualified contractor or work with one you already trust.

BILCO installations need a contractor with experience cutting into concrete, sealing the door to the foundation, and tying the bulkhead into the home's grading and drainage. Swain Contracting handles this work throughout our core service area, and their crews know the BILCO product line top to bottom.

Outside Swain's coverage area, we'll help you identify a qualified contractor in your area or work with a contractor you already trust. BILCO is the most well-established name in cellar doors, and most foundation, basement, or general remodeling contractors have installed them before.

What to Expect

A typical BILCO installation on an existing sloped areaway is a same-day job for an experienced crew. Replacement on an existing footprint is straightforward; brand-new bulkhead installations on a finished foundation are a larger project involving excavation and concrete work.

Shipping & Delivery: For Contractors & Building Suppliers

Quick Answer: Inside our service area we deliver on our own trucks. Outside the service area but within our distribution territory, we arrange common-carrier or LTL freight, palletize the order in our yard, and load it onto the carrier when it arrives. The customer pays shipping and handling.

Our distribution territory covers the Delaware River Valley and a significant portion of the eastern Mid-Atlantic. How a BILCO order gets to your jobsite or yard depends on where you are inside that territory:

Location

How We Get It To You

Within our service area

We deliver on our own trucks. Faster turnaround, direct contact with our team, and no third-party freight handling.

Outside our service area (but within distribution territory)

We arrange common-carrier or LTL freight to your address. We palletize the order, prep it for shipping, and load it onto the carrier truck when it arrives in our yard.

Shipping and handling are billed to the customer. We quote freight up front so there are no surprises on the invoice. Standing orders and recurring contractor accounts welcome — call us about volume pricing if you're moving BILCO product in any meaningful quantity.

For contractors: Because we palletize and load every outbound order in-house, what shows up at your yard isn't getting kicked around at a transfer terminal. Doors arrive on the same pallet we built — wrapped, strapped, and intact.
