How the Custom Order Process Works
Our custom order workflow is built to keep pricing transparent and timelines predictable:
- Order sheet. We provide a Steelway order sheet outlining the exact measurements and processing details required for the build. You fill it out with the dimensions and specifications of your opening (we'll help walk you through the measurements if needed).
- Estimating. We submit your completed order sheet to Steelway for pricing. Steelway returns a manufacturer's estimate to us.
- Customer quote. We add our distributor markup to the manufacturer's estimate and relay the final number to you for review.
- Approval & production. With your approval, we submit the order to Steelway for production. Custom builds typically take approximately 3–4 weeks from approval to completion.
- Pickup & delivery. Once the build is complete, we coordinate pickup from Steelway and arrange delivery to you — or hold the unit at our warehouse for your scheduled pickup.
Installation Information (for Homeowners & Property Managers)
Egress Solutions does not perform cellar door installations in-house — we are a distributor. What we do maintain is a vetted network of partnered egress and cellar door installers throughout our distribution territory. Whether you're a homeowner replacing a rusted-out 30-year-old door or a property manager updating units across a portfolio, we can connect you with a partner installer who already knows the product, the local codes, and the regional foundation conditions.
A few things worth keeping in mind before installation:
- Standard KD doors mount directly to the foundation — plan to remove the existing door completely before final measurements. Old units often conceal cracks, shifts, or out-of-square framing that affect fit.
- If you're measuring an existing opening yourself, measure in multiple places (the foundation may have shifted unevenly over time).
- Foundation plates and extension panels are often needed when the existing opening doesn't match a standard size cleanly. It's faster and easier to order them with the door than to pause mid-installation.
